鹿児島労働局が６月３０日発表した５月の県内の有効求人倍率は０．３４倍で、平成に入って最低を更新、円高不況だった１９８７年５月（０．３２倍）以来の低水準となった。求職者増、求人減の傾向が変わる見込みはなく、同局は「今後も当面は厳しい状況が続く」としている。

According to a report presented by Kagoshima Labour Department on June 30, the prefecture’s effective jobs-to-applicants ratio fell to a new low of 0.34 since the start of Japan’s Heisei Era in 1989, which coincidentally was also the second lowest level since May, 1987 when it hit 0.32 amid a high-yen recession. The authorities predicted that the current severity of the situation would continue for the time being as there is no sign of change in the job market where the growing number of applicants face a diminishing number of job offers.

Labour(labor)には「（つらい）労働：労働者」と「陣痛」という意味があります。この２つの痛みは、キリスト教の旧約聖書に記される「禁断の木の実」を食べて楽園から追放されたアダムとイブに、神から与えられた原罪と考えられています。因みに最近では麻酔薬を使って分娩時の痛みをなくす「硬膜外無痛分娩」という手法が広まりつつあるようです。
