ＪＲ鹿児島中央駅東口でシンボル的存在の南国日本生命ビル（鹿児島市中央町）が５月３１日で閉鎖され、４３年間の歴史に幕を下ろした。同社によると、ビルは１９６６年１１月完成。地上１０階で、当時は県内一の高さを誇ったという。１階バスセンターも閉鎖されるため、バス乗車場所は６月から、高速バスが新バスセンター、空港連絡バスが駅東口ターミナルに移る。

Nissei closes saying goodbye
Nangoku Nihonseimei Building, a symbolic building facing the East Exit of JR Kagoshima Chuo Station in Chuo-cho, Kagoshima city, closed its gates on May 31 to bring down the final curtain on its 43-year history. According to the building’s operator, the office block was completed in November of 1966 as the tallest structure throughout the prefecture rising ten stories from the ground. Due to the closure of the building, the bus terminal on the first floor will relocate from June; express bus services will be moved to the new bus terminal, while airport limousine bus services will switch to the bus terminal at the train station’s East Exit.

‘According to …’ は「・・・によると」。‘the … operator’ は「そのビル（南国日本生命ビルのこと）の管理者」。‘the office block’ は「そのオフィスビル（南国日本生命ビルのこと）」。‘(was) completed’ は「完成した」。‘as … prefecture’ は「県内で最も高い建造物として」。‘rising … ground’ は「地上10階建てで」。

タイトルの “Nissei closes saying goodbye"　は「ニッセイがにサヨナラを告げる」。
‘Nissei’ ‘saying’ ‘bye’ で韻を踏ませてあります。このように、英語では韻を踏ませることによってリズム感を演出します。The Beatles の楽曲でも効果的に使われていますので探してみましょう。
