篤姫　「新居」へお引越し
鹿児島市加治屋町の維新ふるさと館は１８日、篤姫コーナーを新設し公開を始めた。３月閉館した同市本港新町の「篤姫館」から移設したもので、篤姫コーナーは常設展示。昨年のＮＨＫ大河ドラマ「篤姫」で使われた振り袖や大奥の居室も設置した。観光で訪れた京都市の女性は「篤姫の生きた時代を知ることができて楽しい。」と話した。

Atsuhime finds new home
Ishin Furusato Kan in Kajiya-cho, Kagoshima city, whose English appellation is the Meiji Restoration Museum, has set up a special corner featuring Princess Atsuhime that became open to the public as of April 18. The exhibits were moved from the Atsuhime Museum in the city’s Honkō-shinmachi district which closed in March, and are now a permanent collection in their new home. The museum also featured long-sleeved kimono dress and a reproduction of the inner palace which was used in last year’s NHK history drama ‘Princess Atsuhime’. A woman from Kyoto city who was on a sightseeing trip said it was fun to learn about the period of history that Atsuhime lived in.

‘whose … Museum’ は「（維新ふるさと館の）英語の呼称は『Meiji Restoration Museum』である」。‘appellation’ は「命名（すること）；呼称、称号（title）」。‘restoration’ は「〔制度・秩序などの〕復活、回復、復興、再興；王政復古（the Restoration）」。‘set up’ は「設置する」。‘featuring …’ は「・・・を特集した、呼び物にした」。‘became … public’ は「公開された」。‘as of …’ は「・・・時点で、・・・現在」。

‘exhibit(s)’ は「展示物（display, exhibition）」。‘permanent collection’ は「常設展示の」。‘their new home’（それらの新居）が指すのは「維新ふるさと館」のこと。

‘long-sleeved … dress’ は「振袖」の訳。‘long-sleeved’ は「長袖の（⇔short-sleeved）」。‘reproduction … palace’ は「大奥を再現したもの」。

‘who … trip’ は「（京都から来た女性は）旅行旅行中であった」。‘the … in’ は「篤姫が生きた時代」。


タイトルの “Atsuhime finds new home"　は「篤姫が新居を見つける」。

薩摩藩の分家である今泉家に生まれて以来、島津本家、京都の近衛家、そして江戸城の大奥と目まぐるしく立場が変わり、最後は大奥という居場所もなくなってしまった篤姫ですが、これまで鹿児島の歴史にもきちんとした居場所を見つけられずにいました。しかし、昨年度のNHK大河ドラマの放送をきっかけに、ドルフィンポートでの仮住まいを経て、維新ふるさと館で常設展示という形で薩摩の歴史に確かな居場所を見つけられたようです。
