川辺二日市始まる
４００の露店が立つ川辺二日市が７日と８日、南九州市川辺の商店街であった。春が到来したかのようなポカポカ陽気に誘われ、多くの人が繰り出した。１．３キロにわたり歩行者天国となった商店街はチンドン行列、バナナのたたき売りもあり、懐かしい昭和の空気がムンムン。そぞろ歩きを楽しむ客の気を引こうと、売り子の元気な声が飛び交った。

Kawanabe Market
A shopping arcade in Chiran town, Minamikyushu City has begun a display of ‘hina’ dolls. The decoration is part of a joint tourism campaign for Girl’s Day, featuring Princess Atsuhime, to be held in six cities in the prefecture and Hitoyoshi City in Kumamoto Prefecture starting on February 1. In Chiran town, the dolls will be on display until the end of March, and visitors will be treated to sweet bean soup every Sunday, as well as events such as playing the Japanese koto harp which are expected during the period.

‘An … bazaar’ は「青空市場」。‘took place’ は「開催された（was held）」。‘shopping district’ は「商店街（shopping area[street, mall]」。‘with … street’ は「道沿いには４００の露店が並んでいた」。


“Under the spring-like weather, the market attracted many people who enjoyed looking around open booths along the 1.3km vehicle-free promenade for the day, while a parade with cheerful fanfare and the sale of bananas in a Dutch auction produced a nostalgic atmosphere remnant of the Showa Period. ”

‘spring-like’ は「春のような」。‘the market … people’ は「その市場（二日市のこと）にはたくさんの人々が来場した」。‘attract’ は「〈人・物・事が〉・・・を引く、引きつける、魅惑する」。‘open booth(s)’ は「露店（stall）」。‘vehicle-free promenade’ は「歩行者天国（pedestrian precinct[street, mall]）」。‘a parade … fanfare’ は「にぎやかなファンファーレを伴ったパレード」で、「チンドン行列」の訳。‘the sale … auction’ は「逆ぜりによるバナナの販売」で、「バナナの叩き売り」の訳として考えてみました。‘Dutch auction’ は「逆ぜり、せり下げ競売」で、徐々に根がつり上がっていく通常のせりとは逆に、ある金額から徐々に値段を下げていくという方式のオークションで（ジーニアス英和辞典）、‘Chinese auction’ と呼ばれることもあるそうです。‘the sale of banana at a slashed[discount, giveaway, greatly-reduced] price’（バナナの大安売り）という訳が無難かもしれませんが、ここでは値段交渉の駆け引きのニュアンスを出してみました。


“The venue was filled with lively voices of the vendors who tried to attract shoppers strolling through the mall.”

‘The venue’（その現場）は「二日市」のことを指します。‘(was) filled with …’ は「・・・で満たされる、埋まる」。‘vendor(s)’ は「（街頭の）物売り；行商人」。動詞形は ‘vend’（・・・を売り歩く）で、「自動販売機」は ‘vending machine’ といいます。 ‘stroll’ は「〈人が〉ぶらつく、散歩［散策］する；放浪する、さまよう」。


タイトルの “Kawanabe Market”　は「川辺市」。
