インフルエンザ警報！
鹿児島県は１９日、インフルエンザとみられる患者の集団発生で、１小学校が休校、１保育園が休所、３小中学校が学年・学級閉鎖になった、と発表した。県はインフルエンザ流行発生注意報を発令中。健康増進課は「今からが流行のピーク。うがい・手洗い、外出時のマスク着用などを徹底してほしい」と呼びかけている。

Kagoshima on alert for flu epidemic
Kagoshima Prefecture announced on January 19 that an elementary and a nursery school as well as classes at three other elementary and junior high schools were temporarily suspended due to an outbreak of an epidemic believed to be flu. The authority has been issuing warnings for the outbreak of the disease. The prefecture’s Health Promotion Division is urging people to gargle and wash their hands, as well as to wear masks when leaving their homes as the spread of the viral disease is expected to reach its peak from now.

‘announce’ は「〈人が〉〈事・物〉を〔人に〕公表する、知らせる；・・・と宣言する」。‘nursery school’ は「保育所［園］（preschool）」。‘A as well as B’ は「・・・と同様に、・・・のみならず、・・・だけでなく、・・・はもちろん」。‘(were) temporarily suspended’ は「臨時休校（学級閉鎖）になった」。‘due to …’ は「・・・の原因で、・・・のためで（because of, owing to, on account of）」。‘an … epidemic’ は「伝染病の発生」。‘flu’ は「インフルエンザ（influenza）」。

‘The authority’ は「当局（鹿児島県のこと）」。‘have … for ~’ は「～に対する注意報を出している」。‘issue’ は「〈人・機関が〉〈宣言・命令など〉を出す、発する；〈法令・警告など〉を公布［発布］する（put out）」。‘the disease’（その病気）は「インフルエンザ」のこと。‘disease’ は ‘illness’ ‘sickness’ に対して病名のはっきりした病気を指します（ジーニアス英和辞典）。I.e. heart disease（心臓病）、‘lung disease’（肺病）

‘The … Division’ は「県の健康増進課」。‘(is) urging people to ~’ は「人々に～を促している」。‘gargle’ は「〈のど・口〉をうがいする；〈言葉など〉をがらがら声で発する」。‘as … now’ は「そのウィルス性の病気（インフルエンザのこと）はこれからピークを迎えると予測されるため」。‘as’ はここでは理由を表す接続詞として用いられています。‘be expected to …’ は「・・・と期待［予想、予測］されている」。‘reach a peak’ は「ピーク［頂点、最高潮］に達する」。


タイトルの “Kagoshima on alert for flu epidemic”　は「鹿児島でインフルエンザ注意報発令中」。
