鹿児島県内の官公庁や多くの企業で５日、仕事始め式があった。県庁では伊藤祐一郎知事は観光振興策について、九州・山口の産業遺産群の世界遺産登録に向けた取り組みや、７月の皆既日食を挙げ“ポスト篤姫”に期待を込めた。鹿児島地裁の片山良広所長は５月２１日に始まる裁判員制度について、「十分に準備をし、全職員が協力して役割をはたしてほしい」とあいさつした。

Government offices and many companies in the prefecture held ceremonies to mark the return to their routine after the New Year holidays on January 5. In an address delivered at the Prefectural Hall, the Governor Ito Yuichiro expressed his expectations for the prefecture’s tourism campaign, citing the ongoing efforts to designate historical sites from the industrial legacy in the Kyushu and Yamaguchi regions, and the total solar eclipse, which will take place in July as successor to the Princess Atsuhime boom brought by the NHK period drama that featured the locally-born princess. At the Kagoshima Local District Court, director Katayama Yoshihiro called for its staff to fulfil their roles in preparing for the newly-introduced citizen judge system which will start on May 21.

‘address’ は「（高等・書面での公式的な）あいさつ（formal speech）」。‘deliver an address[a speech]’ で「あいさつ［スピーチ］をする」。‘the Prefectural Hall’ は「県庁」。‘the Governor’ は「知事」。‘expressed … for ~’ は「・・・への期待を表明した」。‘citing …’ は「・・・を引き合いに出して、列挙して」。‘ongoing’ は「継続［進行］している；前進［発達］中の」。‘designate’ は「〈人などが〉〈人・施設など〉を〔役職・用途に〕指名［指定、用意］する」。‘historical site(s)’ は「歴史的な場所；史跡」。‘industrial legacy’ は「産業的遺産」。‘the total … eclipse’ は「皆既日食」。‘as successor to …’ は「・・・の後釜［後継者、後任］として」。‘brought by ~’ は「（篤姫ブームは）地元出身のお姫様を扱ったＮＨＫ大河ドラマによってもたらされた」。「篤姫」の補足的な説明として加えています。「ポスト篤姫」という言葉が示すのは「『篤姫』の次の観光の目玉」のことだと言えます。

タイトルの “Get down to work”　は「仕事に取り掛かる」。
