鹿児島市の中央地区商店街振興組合連合会（中振連）は今秋、天文館地区に設置している防犯カメラ７３台のうち、近年更新していない約５０台を一斉に更新する。２００３年１１月の導入から１０年を迎えるのを機に最新式のシステムに切り替える。
新しい機器は導入初期のものと比べ、録画時間が約２倍の１カ月程度に延び、画像はより鮮明になる。これまで通り会ごとに管理していたが、今後、１１通り会のうち９通り会分は中振連が集中管理する。
事業費は工事費を含め約１５００万円。３分の２は国の２０１２年度商店街まちづくり事業の補助を受ける。

Kagoshima city centre to get sharper eye for security
Kagoshima City's Federation of Central District Shopping Mall Promotion Associations will replace 50 outdated surveillance cameras, out of 73 devices installed in the Tenmonkan district, in Autumn. The retiring system will be switched to the latest model as it will be ten years old in November 2013.
The new device is capable of recording about a month-long video, which is about double that of the current one, while producing a sharper image. The federation will centralise the management of the cameras located on nine out of 11 shopping streets, which had been operated separately.
The project cost is approximately 1.5 million yen including the installation costs. Two-thirds of the cost will be covered by a government subsidy as part of the shopping streets’ development project for the fiscal year 2012.
