Makurazaki's "B-grade gourmet" gets patent
"Makurazaki Katsuofunato meshi," which had been developed by the federation of shopping streets in Makurazaki City, and which won Kagoshima Prefecture's Show-1 Gourmet Grand Prix for two consecutive times, has obtained a trademark registration from the national patent office.
The rice bowl dish, which is based on a fishermen's meal, is topped with sliced raw bonito fish with bonito-flavoured soup poured over it. It was inducted into the food competition’s "the Hall of Fame" for the first time in its history.
The local group filed for registration on May 2. It was approved as of July 26, and they received the certificate in mid-August. Along with Katsuofunato meshi, "Funato meshi" will also be registered as a proprietary product name.
