Iisa King paves royal road to king of kings
Iisa King, the official character of Isa City, took the crown at the Kyushu area preliminary election of the "Gotochi-chara General Election" to advance to the final, according to the results released by The Japan Department Stores Associations, which hosts the popularity poll.
The final poll, which will include finalists from seven areas across the country, will be conducted only on their official website (http://gotochi2013.jp/) between the 10th and the 25th of the same month.
Iisa King was originally created as a mascot for "Teba King"—of chicken wigs developed by Isa Miryoku Kenkyujo—as the city's new "Grade-B gourmet," which refers to reasonable and popular foods. Iisa King caught on for its "Doya-gao"—or self-assured look—and had come in third place in Kyushu area’s primary election, for which 66 characters threw their hats into the ring. He was the only candidate from Kagoshima that made it to the Kyushu stage.
