Giant robot from "Robotics Notes" appears on Tanegashima
The exhibition of a gigantic robot, "Guntsuku-1," which appears in a popular video game and an animation series—“Robotics Notes," which is set on the Tanegashima Island—opened at the site of a hotel in Nishinoomote City on June 1. Along with a souvenir shop that opened across the road on the same day, it is expected to become another tourist destination of the rocket island, which has been bustling with the game’s ardent fans, who take "a pilgrimage" to the spots that appear in the movie.
The robot is being displayed in a six-metre-long, 2.5-metre-high container with the body laid on its side. In principle, it will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. until August 31.
The souvenir shop opens only on weekends, and public holidays when the "Pilgrimage Concierge" introduces the "sacred spots" and gives out a tourist map. As a rule, the shop is open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
