「いっどどま」変化の風　衆院選
８月３０日に実施された衆議院議員選挙で、民主党と国民新党は１、３区で議席を獲得、自民王国・鹿児島に風穴を開けた。解散前５議席を独占していた自民は、「３勝２敗」と辛うじて勝ち越した。民主陣営の幹部は「相次ぐ敵失による自民の自滅の側面が強い」と冷静に分析している。投票率は、前回を１．８１ポイント上回る７１．５０％で、小選挙区比例代表並立制が導入された１９９６年以降最も高い数字だった。

Winds of ‘change’ storm into Kagoshima
Both the Democratic Party of Japan and the People’s New Party captured seats in the no. 1 and 3 constituencies in the election of the House of Representatives held on August 30, bringing a breath of fresh air to Kagoshima which is often referred to as the ‘Kingdom’ of the Liberal Democratic Party. The LDP, which had dominated all of the five seats in the prefecture before the dissolution of the Diet, narrowly secured its majority by three wins and two losses. One executive of the DPJ camp calmly analysed the result saying it was largely a case of self-defeat by the ruling party due to a series of political blunders. The voting posted 71.50%, up 1.81 points from the previous lower house election, which was the highest mark since 1996 when single-seat constituency combined with proportional representation was introduced.
